The Complete Airway Management (CAM) Catheters™ are the world's only complete airway management catheters for endotracheally intubated patients, uniquely addressing the needs of both the natural airway and the artificial airway. The CAM Catheter™ product line includes the CAM Rescue Cath™ and the CAM Endotrach Cath™.
The CAM Rescue Cath™ was designed specifically to help manage patients who's endotracheal tubes have become partially or completely obstructed by inspissated secretions, mucus or blood. In the rare instances of complete near-complete endotracheal tube obstruction, it affords a less invasive alternative to emergency re-intubation or tracheostomy and the inherent risk of losing control of the airway during these procedures. In the nearly ubiquitous but characteristically insidious process of partial endtracheal tube obstruction by airway secretions, it offers an opportunity to restore airway patency to near normal levels and minimize imposed work of breathing, which may facilitate weaning from mechanical ventilation.
Everyone Benefits from CAM Catheter™ Use
The CAM Catheters™ address three of the most significant complications encountered by intubated patients. These include: 1. Sudden ET tube (complete or near-complete) obstruction 2. Partial ET tube obstruction leading to elevated imposedWork Of Breathing and prolonged mechanical ventilation. 3. Formation of ET tube biofilm which can serve as a nidus for VAP.
All three of these are associated with increased morbidity and mortality for intubated patients, and each one is by itself a source of additional related complications. For example, a patient who experiences a suddenly obstructed ET tube is first exposed to all of the potential complications of airway obstruction with inability to adequately oxygenate or ventilate. However, if clinical management of that same patient entails emergent extubation (as recommended by current clinical practice guidelines), then the patient is exposed to a second set of complications related to having an unprotected airway. Finally, if reintubation is deemed necessary, the patient is then exposed to a third set of complications uniquely related to the intubation process itself. The sequential and sometimes cascading sets of complications put these patients at high risk for considerable morbidity and mortality. With most intubated patients, inter-related sets of complications can similarly stem from partial ET tube obstruction and formation of biofilm within the ET tube. By helping to eliminate the common origin of these intubation-related complications (ET tube secretions), the CAM Catheters™ could help reduce the complications themselves.
Intensive care unit costs related to intubated and mechanically ventilated patients represent a large portion of a hospital's operating costs. When these already work-intensive patients develop complications, both direct costs and resource consumption rise considerabley for ICUs and Respiratory Care departments. Capitated payments and recent initiatives for nonpayment for hospital-acquired diseases could result in huge financial losses for hospitals where patients develop these types of complications.
Your hospital can trial the CAM Rescue Cath™ at little or no cost by participating in our clinical outcomes program. Using a simple product evaluation form which we provide, you will determine the superior level of care that you can offer your intubated patients and the improvement in resource utilization that naturally follows.
